Since joining Mercer in 1998, Dr. Podeschi has provided clinical and operational expertise on a broad array of assignments involving the design and implementation of managed care strategies or the redesign and performance improvement of existing managed care programs.
She has conducted over 100 assessments of 40 different managed behavioral health organizations on behalf of employer and government clients. These assessments included vendor selections, readiness reviews, clinical performance reviews and cost-efficiency studies as part of actuarial evaluations. In addition, she has implemented behavioral-medical integration and performance-based contracting initiatives and conducted clinical studies on the cost-impact of managed care programming and mental health parity mandates. Dr. Podeschi brings 28 years of clinical, managed care and consulting experience, 17 with public sector clients.
Prior to joining Mercer in 1998, she held posts of Vice President of Clinical Operations and Regional Vice President of Managed Care Operations for a large, national managed behavioral health care organization. In these roles, she managed the delivery of managed behavioral health services to over 1.2 million covered lives, representing employer, Medicaid and Medicare enrollment across a 10-state region. In addition to responsibility for P&L in her regional role, her responsibilities included oversight of intake and referral, utilization/care management, quality improvement, over 20 staff model clinics, national network development, credentialing, contracting and provider relations. Previously, Denise was the Director of Outpatient Programs at a community mental health center serving low-income residents and she maintained a private practice.
